The Construction Sector Development Agency (SSVA) is launching a project on Thursday to develop a 3D spatial planning tool to help rebuild Ukraine's war-torn cities.

3D city planning tool, which enables to display in three-dimensional space not only the current situation of Ukrainian cities, but also ongoing and planned construction projects.

This tool will be useful for all those who contribute to the reconstruction of destroyed cities, both in design and construction.

"We hope that this innovative solution will be successfully applied not only in the settlements of Bucha and Borodyanka, but also in other war-affected areas of Ukraine. Lithuania has valuable experience in 3D spatial planning, which we can share with Ukrainian municipalities in order to achieve quality urban regeneration," says Aidas Vaičiulis, Director of SSVA.

On Thursday, remote meetings were held with the representatives of the municipalities of Bucha and Borodyanka to discuss relevant issues concerning the development of the project.

The first phase of the project will involve the development of a digital platform and the collection and uploading of 3D images of the city. This would be the basis for the development of a 3D planning tool tailored for Ukrainian cities.

"3D spatial planning will help ensure the quality of the new buildings and more efficient urban development. Lithuania is also committed to training the staff of the municipalities of Borodyanka and Bucha not only how to use the tool, but also to further develop and improve it," says Tomas Gulbinas, SSVA's Special Project Manager for Ukraine.

The 3D planning tool is expected to be developed in Q2 2024. The project partner is "Vilniaus Planas", UAB. The project is funded equally by the governments of the Republic of Lithuania and Taiwan.

Lithuania, Borodyanka and Bucha have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), whereby all parties also expressed their mutual interest in further developing cooperation and solidarity, and in implementing their international commitments.

The municipalities of the Kyiv region have been severely affected by the Russian offensive, which damaged thousands of buildings.
